Using improved Swarm’s experimental absolute vector mode data to produce a candidate Definitive Geomagnetic Reference Field (DGRF) 2015.0 model

Abstract We describe the way a global model of geomagnetic field has been built using vector data acquired by absolute scalar magnetometers (ASM) running in mode on board Alpha and Bravo satellites European Space Agency (ESA) Swarm mission. This used as parent to build candidate Definitive Geomagnetic Reference Field (DGRF) 2015.0 meet call issued context recent update International (IGRF thirteenth generation). Because small but systematic issues were identified previous IGRF same spirit (also only relying ASM data) twelfth generation), we now also use improved (ASM-V) data. The issue originally affecting ASM-V is described, together with are being produced. resulting DGRF shown considerably improve (being closer final one order magnitude spherical harmonic spectral terms). It stand among models closest official model. Being entirely such data, it demonstrates value new for modeling purposes.
